from what i have learned from this site is that I need to keep all the chicks on unmedicated food until they are all laying eggs.. which i'm totally ok with.. but when I change there food how do i know what type of food to change it too.. I want my chickens to be healthy as can be.. there are so many options to choose from.. I want to have the eggs yummy and as healthy as possible.. any suggestions or clarifications would be awesome!!!!!

I would feed layer feed.

I supplement with oats/wheat/sunflower seeds/alfalfa and i free range. I also feed table scraps(without salt and onions). They especially love steak, quinoa, rice, and scrambled eggs with honey toast.

Oh, I feed a lot of fruit too! I eat mostly vegetables myself and some fruit. When my fruit gets too ripe before molding, the chickens devour it. I throw all my vegetables and peelings/pulp in the compost. They love that too.

My eggs are the best when they free range. They rarely eat the feed, but eat all my treats. They come running when I whistle once. I have a pretty big yard to free range.

Layer when they all are laying, or have reached the POL at 18 to twenty weeks. If you have a mixed age flock again, then they all can be on starter/grower with a calcium supplement on the side for the ones who are laying.

There's no one answer, as you can see from the answers you've received so far! Mine is still different.....

I have a flock of mixed ages and genders, so I feed everyone an all-in-one feed. I toss oyster shell in the run when I think of it, for my layers. Laying hens, especially high production breeds, need supplemental calcium. This can be from layer feed, which has extra calcium added it, or something like oyster shell, tums, etc. You don't need both.
