During a recent inspection of the Bi-County feed mill, FDA investigators
discovered live and dead mice and evidence of bird activity throughout the
facility. FDA laboratory analysis of samples collected during the inspection
confirmed the presence of rodent urine, rodent feces, rodent hairs, and
rodent-gnawed holes in bags, in and around food products.

Acting on a warrant issued by the U.S. District Court in the Eastern
District of Kentucky, marshals seized all FDA-regulated food products
exposed to rodent and bird contamination at the facility. The seized
products violate the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act because they were
kept in conditions in which they may have become contaminated with filth.

Bi-County manufactures feed and stores commercial feeds received through
interstate commerce. The products are sold locally to farms and stables. The

Good Information though!!

I have been feeding my chicks:

Purina Start & Grow Sunfresh

When was this recalled? and should I be concerned?
I live in MA, is this effecting all of the states!?

I'll try to get more info. I get FDA recalls straight from the FDA. Let me see what else I can find out.

ETA: I just got this from another notice from the FDA. It includes the above and at the bottom it says:

"Purchasers of these products should not feed them to animals and should discard them. In addition, purchasers should thoroughly wash their hands after handling the products.

James A. Zerhusen, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, filed the complaint requesting the seizure, and his office will continue to coordinate with the FDA to ensure proper disposition of the seized items."

I don't know if it's countrywide but the way it reads, it may well be. If you still have the bags the feed comes in, I would see if its made in Kentucky. I would also call where I purchased it and find out if they have any information. It says absolutely NOT to feed it to your animals.

Thank you! Granted I have been feeding this for 6 weeks and haven't lost one to food poisioning at this point I dont think.

I lost 2 chicks, but one was very shorty after she got home( stress) and the other in the flock integration ( I think one of my more agressive did her in).

I really dont want to loose anymore!
