Hi everyone!

in march i'll be upgrading my small flock to 200 laying hens. If i continue with bag feed they'll 28 fifty pound bags of feed for the month. I have little experience with bulk grain and no $ to buy a bulk grain storage system so i am wondering
1. if i continue with bag feed, what would be a way to store the feed bags so that they are protected from rodents

2. do you have any advice or experience with bulk feed and bulk feed storage you could pass on to me.

thanks so much

55 gal barrells run 4-6$ used around here and are readily available.
a salvage yard close by always has dozens on hand. You can get either plastic or steel. I would think 3 or 4 should be enough.

For our horse and goat feed we used the silver galvanized trash cans so I would go for that or metal drums. The %@$% squirrels kept chewing into our plastic barrels... thats no fun !

Some type of metal can or box. And you may want to be able to strap the lid down with bungie (or something) with the handles, because some types of rodents can open lids. Just depends on what you have in your area. And keeping spilled feed swept up in the storage area helps keep from attracting them to begin with.
