Hi all -

I've been bitten by the Silkies!!!

Now that my ten 9 wk olds soon to be little protein suppliers are settled in their coop and run, I've desided to get four silkies or other sweet, cute, lovable little chicks to put in a tractor/coop.

Two of my local Feed Stores are getting in 'Banty Mixes" one from Ideal and the other Privett.

They couldn't tell me what comes in the Mixes.

Does anyone have any idea what I'll see and how I go about picking out pullet silkies or other fluffies?

Thank you for your help.

I think silkies are the easiest to pick out - esp. if their order was large. Just start looking for a dark colored beak and if you find one make sure it has black feet and 5 toes. As far as I know there's no way to tell the sex... they say with silkies you'll only know once they start laying or crowing, lol! Have fun picking out new fuzzbutts!

Yep silkies will be easy to find out of the mix. Black skin (more of a slate blue on whites) and always 5 toes with feathers on their legs and feet. That should help...

now sexing them?! GOOD LUCK! I had to hear my rooster crow to know for sure... and that was a good 12-14 weeks in!?
