We use the water bottles, so they should be OK. I do want to add another, so maybe on inside & one outside.

One thing you may want to consider in determining where you want to have your food is predators.

Our chickens free range during the day, but we lock our chickens in the coop at night because we have some pretty fierce night time predators around here. We also keep their food in the coop, because we don't want to attract predators around the coop, even if the girls are locked up.

We have BEARS where I am. They have been pretty destructive in the past. I will put the food in the coop at night and back in the run during the day. I would hate to have them destroy all of our work. (I heard they won’t touch the chickens, but you never know.)

Personally I like to have the food inside the coop.

If you get rain or snow you don't want water in the food or for the water to freeze.

I also like the having the food and water inside the coop because then the squirrels and other wild birds can't eat any of it.
