That's too much scratch in my opinion.

Mine only get scratch for a treat in winter months or mixed in small quantities during our extremely warm summer months.

According to Storey's, if your layer ration is less than 20% protein (most are 16% or 18%), you should not use more than 5% scratch. 50% scratch is too high. I would stick mainly to the layer ration.

I am new to chickens and I was feeding more scratch than layer. I read that you get more eggs with more layer food. I now do that and they get scratch as a treat. Now they lay better and the shells are thicker too. They have access to a big yard and get all the bugs, grass and dirt they could want.
