Feed

Try to start local if you have any mills nearby. Unfortunately for me, I do not have any nearby, and even the ones that are somewhat close, like an hour or more away, have extremely unimpressive ingredients/nutrient content.

So I'm at the mercy of ordering online, and it can be a crapshoot as far as mill date/freshness. One thing I've learned though is some feeds have a far lesser storage life than others. Things like molasses can go rancid within a few months but other feeds may not have ingredients like that.

Hi there, it took me aagggeeeessssss to find the right feed.
First I found a local supplier with a good turnover.
Then I discarded the feed less than 15% protein.
Then I went through the others one by one.
It was a chore and hard work.
Seeing the number of days each sack lasted, the price, the variety of seeds etc and of course what my girlz point blank refused to eat (lin seeds nd often the layers pellets).
Eventually I found an organic feed (the most expensive unfortunately) which lasts for a reasonable time, has 16% protein and they eat all of it.
Happy them, broke me 🤷‍♀️
Hope this helps

Personally like Payback, but because it's 17% (not a lot, but higher than 16% at least) and a good price per pound at my feed store. I just use oystershell and waterfowl feed though for my flocks now, I don't do layer anymore
