I bought a feeder from the store when I 1st got my hens. It is a little aluminum tray with holes in the top for them to eat through. It worked fine until I got Jake, my rooster. He would step on it and flip it over, then eat off of the ground. I decided today to fix this by building a simple 2' x 2' box out of 2 x 4's with wafer board on the bottom. I know I need to cover it with wire because they are climbing in it and will eventually mess in it. Will chicken wire be big enough or do you think I will need dog wire?

OK, I had this problem and here's what I did. I took a piece of 1x4 or 1x6, whatever was in the scrap pile and ran a bead of silicone over the bottom of the feeder and stuck it to the board. Let it dry, and no more tipovers. I just used what I had on hand because I was tired of them doing this. it worked so well, that that's what I did to all of mine that I use in the brooder pens.
