Why should the feeder be @ chest level? if it is @ ground level Will this be a problem for the chickens?

If it's at ground level, the feed will get dirty and go bad faster.

Depending on the type of feeder, the chickens like to get in and scratch the feed out or even flick it out with their beaks. Raising the feeder keeps the food clean from scratched up bedding and might save you some wasted feed from the flicking and scratching. Some folks hang their feeders to discourage mice and rats from taking feed.

Glad to know this. I have been keeping the girls feeder on the ground and started questioning if this is a health problem. They really don't seem to get the feed dirty, but sounds like it is a good idea to raise the feeder after all. Boy, it seems like everyday I am changing things around or adding
