Feeder recomendations for low waste.

With the chick feeder I honestly think much more food is ending up on the floor of the brooder than is being consumed. They must think something better lies under the chick crumble in the feeder.

When it comes time to upgrade to a big girl feeder I'd like to get or make one that doesn't allow much to be wasted. Anybody have better success with one style over another?

Anything that hangs...and you need to hang it at the height of their backs. It will not eliminate waste entirely, but it sure will help!

I use the large flat rubber fortex feed pans under my 12lb feeders to catch the waste. It saves a ton of money.

I'm not sure this is the size I have, as I got mine at the feed store.

I don't even hang my feeders- I set them in the pans.

Either a hanging feeder or start feeding them 1-2 times per day, a measured amount so that it is all eaten within 30 minutes...generally speaking. In my run there always seems to be a bit leftover after 20-30 minutes but I figure that it gives any lo ranking stragglers a chance to clean up.

I took one of those red sheetrock plaster trays from lowes and screwed it to a board turned the other way (to make an X shape). Now they can't scratch it and turn it over. Cut way down on wasted feed.

I always have a catch pan under big feeders and chick feeders. I sift the old caught feed and remix with fresh every few days.

I use a pvc feeder that hangs on my coop wall. It has five hole for my girls to feed from. They are big enough for the girls to eat but small enough so they cant bill it out. No waste!

I also use a pvc pipe but we cut the top completely off, I have very little waste also and it's easy to fill and I can keep track to make sure it is being completely emptied.
