Feeder size? More than one? Waterers too?

That is what I plan to do, but sil has 2 heated dog bowls she got on clearance for $10 years ago though the dogs are only outside for about 10=15 minutes at a time in the winter. She will be passing them on to my chickies, though she doesn't know it yet.

WOW! This is an awesome idea! Just reading through the 31 pages of the thread

brought up all sorts of good ideas as well. Hubby's looking it all over now too to see what he thinks as far as electrical safety too. We need to deal with running power out to the hen house; thinking about a battery with some sort of a solar panel maybe. I dunno -- that part sounds a bit spendy to me. I'm hoping for just a safe conduit out to the coop, but we'll see.

Before hitting the sheets tonight I wanted to pop in and give a BIG thank you to everyone. This forum is truly a great place for information. I'm sure some of you with big flocks probably laugh at us little suburban'y chicken-keeper wanna-be's ... but I, for one, am grateful for your advice!

I like having extra space for the chickens to eat and drink to avoid any problems with the pecking order and to make things easier on the chickens.

If you are going for the perfect coop, I would not use a bucket waterer. I would use aline with cups or nipples on it so it takes up less space and is easier to manage.

Cookie tin heater, I have never heard of it, but checked it out, it's something else to think about. I am also looking at the nipple waters for the summer. This place is really giving me some very good ideas, being new at this and having so many animals I need to find easier ways to do things. (I'm getting older everyday, and some days are worse). What about ducks and geese waters?
