Feeders or sprinkling feed on ground?

Quote:
I keep a feeder and waterer hanging in the coop. I also throw scratch treats (oats, sunflower seeds, once in awhile bird seed, cracked corn etc.), But I do not try to feed them this, these are treats.

I do like the idea of putting the feed in different places if you can. This is especially productive if you have "groups" of different ages. As said in a previous post, the dominant ones pick on the little ones. My poor babies would have nothing to eat if I didn't put it all around.

I have a hanging feeder and waterer inside and outside of the coop in the run. Since they free range, I keep at least three to four bowls and plated of chick feed in different places. It seems to assure the that the smaller birds can get some without being molested. Of course, the big girls eat it too!

I also throw oats out for them every morning and as said, there is something down to earth about that and it gives a warm feeling to do it, if you understand what I mean. Good point, to poster who said you can look over the chickens. That is important.

Anyway, too long of a post....

Thanks so much everyone! I feel like me and the chickens are doing just fine! This weekend I am gonna buy a few more bowls and I'll throw a little on the ground too!
