i have the large plastic red and white feeders for their crumbles that are up on a few red bricks to keep them off the floor. How often should i clean them out..i also have a makeshift top on both of them so no "poop" or dirt gets inside them. (aluminum pie tins, mold perfectly to the top of feeders) it works great. They look very clean inside...very little dirt on the outside.

For my feeders, I never clean them unless they are visibly dirty. If you have a straw or wood shaving floor, it will stay clean for a lot longer.

Waterers are a much different thing.

ok..thank you! i have wood shavings on the dirt floor of the coop. The inside of the feeders is very clean. I clean out watering pans every day, sometimes twice a day and i have a hanging bucket with lid and watering cups on the side that i change out every few days because it never gets dirt in it, but i like to keep it fresh for them, especially in hot weather. I also have the black rubber pans that get a bit slimy in a day, so i wipe them out with white vinegar and paper towels before refilling. I was getting concerned about the food feeders, but they seem very clean on the inside. :)
