Hello! Our opringtons and plymouth rock chicks are a few days over 4 weeks old and have had nothing but chick starter.

I got some chick grit, baby cake, and chick stick to start with them.

I've read about people starting to feed their chicks table scraps at this age. Is that ok? Because chicks don't have teeth do you need to chop it up into fine pieces? I don't want to other think it and put everything in the food processor if that isn't necessary.

thanks for your advice and help!

:welcome so glad you have joined us.

IMO don't give babies table scraps - they can handle boiled or scrambled eggs, even mealie worm treats or a babycake forage thing along with grit.

But they need real food to grow and be healthy - stick with starter feed, if you give age appropriate treats, then limit to a very small amount.

I'd start them out slow, giving them small amounts of greens, fruits, scrambled eggs then add things as they grow.

You don't need to puree the food, the gizzard uses the grit in their diet to grind up the food.
