This is a question I can’t find an answer to on the internet. I’ve been wondering what would happen if I fed my Brahma rooster a higher protein feed. Like game bird feed that has 30% protein. He’s already on a 20% so I’m sure he gets enough. But I’m curious how the higher protein could would effect him. Anyone ever done this?

He might have better feather quality and feel healthier but I think that's it

Too much protein is bad for chickens. The excess will get filtered out in the poop, but will produce more ammonia than normal. That extra ammonia is bad for their health and can cause respiratory distress and eye irritation. Filtering all that extra protein can put strain on their kidneys as well.

There is absolutely no point to feeding him extra protein. 20% is more than enough for him.

I've read that chickens can safely be fed up to 27% Protein feed. But it's wasted as a smelly ammonia poop. I don't remember where I read it, but I got a lot of nutritional information facts about chickens. GC
