Is it ok for roosters to eat layer feed? I have 3 girls that should be ready to start laying in the next few weeks, and was going switch to layer feed once my current bag ran out, but I have the 2 roos, and I'm concerned it will be too much calcium for them.

Some people say that it could kill a rooster after a while and I did feed layer for a while but know I have a mixed flock so I feed grower with oyster shell

I put my adult flock on layer without issue. I've never seen decline health in any of my roos. My last roo was culled at the age of 4+ b/c he was no longer an effective breeder. I have no doubt that he would have continued in robust health for a much longer time.

I do a Flock Raiser and supplement with oyster shell for the girls who are laying. About once a month, I put a Flock Block in with them for a treat - they love those things! The only other treats mine get are frozen peas/carrots and watermelon in the high heat to help cool them down, and occasionally I'll toss a few handfuls of mealworms out to them for a protein boost.
