i am new to this, and reasearching so that i buy the right stuff!!! i am hoping to get 2(possibly 3) laying hens, and was wondering what and how much to be feeding them each day. also when is the best time to feed them? if it makes any difference, i am hoping to get either silkies or cochins. thank you so much!

If you are getting very young birds then use starter/grower feed available at your local farm store. In general most people place food and water in the coop or pen and let the chickens eat whenever they like throughout the day. They naturally feed several times a day and will not overeat. If you like the idea of feeding them at certain times to enjoy the interaction then you can give them a treat of bread, chopped leafy greens or scrath grains once they reach 6 to 8 weeks of age. If this is your first experience I encourage you to read all you can. Good Luck and welcome to the joy of chickens.
