Feeding BOSS to chicks

Well, my Tractor Supply is out of the Manna Pro feed, so I have a note into the online store to try to order it there. Apparently you can't order it online if your store carries it. Good grief. But, I have a happy update on my littlest chicken. I spent a lot of time just observing all of them yesterday. Found out one of the Orpington Buffs is also aggressive toward her, so I put her in with the rooster. She is his favorite and the two are happy to be back together, although they are not happy at losing their thrones in the flock. So I only have 3 chickens sleeping in the main coop now, because one of my reds sleeps in a tree. When I opened the door, there was Shirl (little chick) roosting with the other two hens. She hasn't done that in weeks. I think I have found a balance. Another thing I noticed is, Shirl is actually the same size as one of the reds. So the little red and Shirl are the most vulnerable, but the largest OB is the one they are hanging with. This could work. Tells me that my husband will need to build another permanent coop. I might keep the rooster and his bestie out of the flock for the summer. They just have a makeshift coop, that I could come up with, and I'm no builder.

For my first flock years ago and my current 15 I toss a few handfuls of BOSS into their pen every now and then. They eat the whole thing which is good. The hull has none of the oil but is good roughage and protein. The seed is oil and fat. Feeding hulled BOSS kind of defeats the purpose as all they are getting is oily fat. They eat the entire seed whole and digest the hull and seed in separate ways. Hulls wind up in the gizzard for processing. The seed gets through their digestive system faster and the oil helps their feathers look and feel nicer.
