Can I keep meat birds on organic starter(since it has high protein) for the first 6 weeks then transfer them onto finisher?

Finding organic feeds here in NJ for meaties is a Herculean task.

Sure you can, as long as you realize that you'll be feeding each chick 15+ pounds of grain to get it grown. It's very expensive. How man chickens do you have. Always think of the cost until processing. I can't do organic. I can do non GMO by mixing grains like wheat, oats, barley, boss (black oil sunflower seeds). They need at least 20% or more protein. Do some research on this. It may be your best option. Keep in touch with what happens.

Even though I have several acres, the town ordinance is crystal clear that they need to be fenced at all times.

I had a bear of a time finding the feed I wanted but my local dealer was able to get me "Blueseal organic starter/broiler".

It's 23% protein and according to the directions, I can feed it all the way through.

Here's the link to the label: http://blueseal.com/files/feeding-and-mgmt/poultry/1002-organiclife-starter.pdf

The bad part is that its 39 a bag. But its only for 7 weeks, and they will be living in my garden pooping away, so im organically fertilizing my garden too.

Win win

How many chicks are you getting? Yes it's expensive but if it's worth it to you go for it.

I have 16 egg layers that are 4 weeks ago. I have 28 meaties that I picked up this week. Have lost 2 of these already.

The other good thing I just noticed on the tag was this a start to finish. No changing feeds.
