Feeding chicken meat?!

I'm pretty liberal with what goes into my pen - all fruit, veggie, and grain kitchen scraps, bread, crackers, egg shells, the occasional chocolate cake that a cousin brought over even though she knows I don't eat chocolate or cake, etc. Plus they have layer crumble, oyster shells, grit, a dirt floor run full of goodies, days out free ranging in the grass, and the ever loved corn scratch treat.

But, I don't let anyone put meat into the pen. Especially chicken scraps - that freaks me out. However, chickens of course eat worms, bugs, etc., so meat should be ok, right?

Any thought on this?

I know it's going to freak some people out but I toss random meat scraps out into the yard for the dogs, but the chickens LOVE them. They really prefer chicken to beef. It's not alot or often, but I don't see any problem since it's very well cooked and a rare thing.

When a 'possum broke into the coop and killed one of my best hens.... I killed the 'possum and brought the freshly killed hen in and made soup out of her. After I picked her meat off the bones I took the cartiledge and some of the fat and meat and fed it back to the rest of the hens. The other chickens happily ate it up.

Don't over think feeding your birds.

Anytime I roast or boil a chicken, the carcass goes to my 10 girls. They absolutely love to eat chicken and any other meat I have given them.

They really seem to like meat and meat flavor..... grease drippings on their food etc. I don't want them to eat chicken either lol but I let them eat meat or grease of other animals

I'm afraid I'm guilty of feeding chicken scraps back to my girls. Either they don't know or they don't care - they gobble it up. Meat is meat as far as I'm concerned. Once the animal is no longer living, it is meat and I'm not going to let that go to waste.

Throw them a left over pork chop - they clean the bone off better than any dog!!! Yes, I give them leftovers including chicken and they love it. I don't see anything wrong with it. Meat is an excellent source of protein for your flock, especially in the northern winters since there aren't any bugs or worms out there now.
