I have rescued some sheep. Well one, the ewe, was a rescue and the other is a runt ram given to me by a kind sheep farmer for her company. The ewe has an injured leg so I'm keeping her in the chicken yard for now because it's smaller and gives her room to walk and roam a little yet keeps her calm and resting her injured leg. The problem is that chicken layer feed contains copper sulfate which can cause bloat and death in sheep. Is there a copper free feed for chickens? The sheep will be there for a few weeks while her leg heals, it's showing improvement already. Can I just feed scratch for now? It's cold here and a little extra fat won't hurt during these cold months and they aren't laying as most of them are still too young. They won't be old enough until January and my four old hens (somewhat rescue hens) stopped laying. They are at least 2 years old and, as I said before, it's cold.
