A partner and I are trying our hands at raising meat birds. He has a source of cheese scraps from the deli where he works.

Are there any guidelines on supplementing chickens diet with cheese after they've come out of the brooder? This will be in addition to grain feed, free ranging, and produce scraps from the grocery. We're just looking for something to boost the protein.

Thanks!

HOwdy Denver!
Cold enough for ya today? Here on the plains of Colorado I'm showing -6.
Anyway, I don't know that I'd give them cheese right out of the brooder though they do adore yogurt at that stage. I do give them cheese when they're older, they love it's but usually shredded for easy consumption.

It was down to zero and the hens were reluctant to come out of the coop but once it warmed up to 10 they were roosting in the sunshine!

Thanks for the tips. We'll keep in mind the yogurt idea, I'm still hoping for someone with dietary expertise on specifics.

Glad to see the sun again!
