Feeding Chickens Crushed Wood Charcoal Mixed with Vinegar?

But that's for dustbathing, not food, right?

My dust bath has a lot of wood ash and many largish lumps and pieces of charcoal. The birds enjoy it even though it tends to turn white birds various shades of gray. I have never witnessed them pecking or trying to eat any of the lumps.

I use biochar in the bedding during the winter to keep odors down and to charge it. The idea is pretty new and char is also used for cattle, offered free choice. The chickens do eat it, and in general they are really healthy, have great yolk color, but are also free range pastured on grass/alfalfa.
