Feeding chickens meat... Deer actually

because i am australian i have never had venision, but i would love to try it!

What has being australian got to do with it? (I mean that nice and questiony not accusingly) There are lot's of deer farms around, it's probably more expensive here I guess but I have had it and there are plenty of feral deer running around. I work in bushland and I nearly got run over by one the other week, scared the absolute CRAP out of me lol

I wouldn't feed them raw meat unless you know the killed animal was healthy, wormed etc. Cooked would be ok because that will kill most parasites and their eggs

Really about the raw meat?

That was the least of my worries. My dog eats a ton of raw meat. I know he is not a chicken but close to the same concept.

But no one goes out and cooks the grasshoppers and bugs that they eat, and I am surely not cooking the meal worms for them.

You don't have to cook it. My chickens have never mentioned that they want their meat medium rare. I'm not gonna feed my chickens renascent meat come on.

Mainly because there is a type of worm that creates cysts in the flesh, brain etc, not just the gut. I'd be concerned if you eat your chickens or your dog does that you both could be affected too. Used to be in a lot of pigs but can occur in any animal. I'm all for raw feeding but I do like to know that the animal they are eating was.... I want a better word.. but "clean", you know not infested with anything.

They can get parasites from bugs etc but being as they tend to be intermediate hosts.

Just my opinion though

I'm not sure of the correct answer but I do see my birds eat alot of different wild looking bugs. But, I agree I'm not gonna feed them something that I'm not sure about even thow its probably the most healthy thing they could possibly eat.

We do a lot of butchering at our house.

we have a couple deer to do. After we get what we want from the deer is it ok to feed the rest to the chickens?

We did this with a pig after we had a pig roast. Threw the carcass into the pen and they went nuts. They had it picked clean in a couple hours. SO I was hoping I can do the same with deer carcasses.
we fed ours venison and they went nuts over it. i tossed a leg out to them and they picked it clean. they are little carnivores. hahahah. make me laugh. they need to protein to make eggs. they eat worms and mice and snakes so venison sold be fine.
