I know you're supposed to switch from starter to grower at 8 weeks and after that layer. We just ran out of starter and we have a new bag of grower (not layer). Is starting them on grower at 6.5 weeks dangerous? They've lived outside and have been foraging with adopted mama hen since they were about a week old.

Different feed companies have different recommendations as to when to switch, anywhere from 4 weeks to 8 weeks. Some people stay with starter and never switch to Grower. It’s not a life or death decision, we do so many different things when it comes to feeding them. As long as you don’t feed the Layer with the high calcium, it doesn’t matter that much.

In my opinion, switching at 6.5 weeks when that bag runs out is a great decision.

Thank you so much!
