I was wondering about he drawbacks of feeding chicks layer feed, if there are any, and if there are, what else I should feed the chicks to supplement their diet.

Layer feed has excess calcium and not enough protein or amino acids for chicks... it could (will) stunt growth and delay development and may cause gout or kidney failure long term...I was wondering about he drawbacks of feeding chicks layer feed, if there are any, and if there are, what else I should feed the chicks to supplement their diet.
Thank you very much for the advice, I'll make sure to get the right feed!Layer feed has excess calcium and not enough protein or amino acids for chicks... it could (will) stunt growth and delay development and may cause gout or kidney failure long term...
Chick feed is best if you are able to get it.... other wise I would add in animal protein bare minimum.
Other terms that okay for chick feed are flock raiser, starter, all flock, grower, or even meat bird... NOT "layer", IF you can help it.
ETA: Oh ya, and ALL that leads to reduced immunity against all things including coccidiosis, Marek's, internal and external parasites... etc.
