Feeding chicks toasted bread?

I checked the searsh for a topic o this and there were no hits. So I am going to ask that is it O.K. to feed chicks ( 5 to 7 weeks old) toasted bread along with the starter feed?

IMO, I think it will be okay, but you only want to do it as a treat. Too much, and they might not get enough vitamins that they need, and that would effect their development, which would could effect their health, which would effect their egg laying, which would effect your grocery bill, which would effect your buying habits, which would effect the local economy, which would effect the world economy, which would lead to war ........

Just kidding about the last part, but really don't over do it on treats.

This was just something I was going to add to the food about 3 times a week and not much then. I can buy bread that has 1 day of shelf life left on it for .20 cents a loaf. I was going to freeze it and add maybe 4 to 5 pieces to the food about 3 times a week.

What an awesome deal!
I know that on another thread someone pointed out that commercial chicken feeds listed "bakery products" or something like that as one of the main ingredients, so i don't think it would that big of a deal. How old are your chicks? I ask because nutrition is more important in the beginning.

I am getting ready to move my 6 week and 8 week old RIR's to the coop. That should happen by this Saturday

. Thes are the ones that I was going to add some toast to. I had read that at 8 to 20 weeks they need a developer food, but the man at the feed store said they could stay on the starter until 20 weeks. Not sure why, maybe they are overstocked on starter

. Anyways I know that at about 20 weeks they need the laying mash. I have also read the thread about all the fruits and veggies they can have. I really want to try the yogurt.

I was just wondering about the bread, I know white bread is not as good as 100% wheat bread because all the nutrients have been squeezed out.

If you have a bread store in town ask about the day old bread and maybe you can get some at a good price too.

Okay, so your chicks are older. I wouldn't think twice about it.
Feed stores around here don't sell grower either, so we only have raised chicks to adulthood on chick feed. Have had no problems. I bet you are glad to get the girls out in their coop.

You got that right.

The older they get the smellier they are

. And to top that off I have 32 more that is 1 1/2 weeks old coming right up behind them

. Well I love chickens and I always have. This is the most I have ever owned. Actually I owned 2 many mooons ago.

Well I ain't that old yet. Still less than 40

. I didn't hink it would hurt them but with all the additives in foods nowadays you can't be to careful.
