Feeding chicks

Just got 6 chicks (a week or two old, I think). When can I supplement the starter feed with some BOSS or things like watermelon? Is it ok to put a stick or small log in the brood for them to perch on? Yup, you guessed it-new kid! Thanks.

Welcome to BYC! My chicks liked softer treats (Egg, oats, oatmeal, grapes (Chopped up.) When they were about 3 weeks old. My 3 month old chicks still aren't totally into BOSS or scratch yet, but LOVE bread, ground cherries, and raisins! Whatever treats you feed them, make sure to give them grit so that they can safely digest them.
