I have some older (4-6 years ) hens which will be going in to the freezer this fall since it is not practical to feed them all winter (free ranging at the moment), when their egg production is declining. Seems to be a more practical feed than egg layer to fatten them up for this process. Perhaps corn with some additional general livestock feed? Open to suggestions on what to switch their feed to, or just keep them on egg layer.

Mix up this Southern Recipe - - - - -

one part of each, in large bowl
garlic powder
onion powder
thyme
rosemary (double parts)
powdered butter
lemon peel zest
kosher salt
fresh cracked black pepper
paprika

mix in with their regular feed for one week prior to harvesting.

that way, they will already be seasoned from the inside out !!!!!
