I keep mine in a coffee can through the week. We usually have cornbread at least once a week so I do double batch and load the "chicken loaf" with the shells. I had an egg eater last summer so I am cautious about giving them anything that still looks like a shell. DH still tries to send them straight to the compost pile
I tell him they will get there when we clean out the coop.
