Feeding ducklings

We have a couple ducklings four weeks old now. They free-range with our hens (a formerly-broody hen is the adoptive mama), and it would be a real pain to separate them. They seem to be doing fine, but it is pretty near impossible to feed them the game bird food I bought especially for them that they're supposed to get for the first couple months. They're skittish, so I can't get near them with it, and if I just put it down and walk away so they'll come to the dish, the hens gobble it up. I've pretty much given up on it -- they're still alive, so I guess they're eating layer pellets or something. Should I be doing something else? If they REALLY need the other food, any ideas on how I can get it to them? Is it bad for the hens to eat the ducklings' food?

They will need to go back to the home where the eggs came from when they are ready. They're Cayugas/Rouins -- when will they be ready to safely join my friend's adult ducks? How do we handle that introduction?

It won't hurt the hen to have the ducklings food for a short while.

Just put enough food in the dish for both the mother and her brood and it should be fine.
