So right now I only have chickens and I feed them Green Mountain Feeds layer pellets, the chicks get green mountain feeds chick starter. I was wondering what I should feed my soon to be duck and chicken flock. Can I feed ducklings chick starter with brewers yeast? Can I feed the whole flock layer pellets? I'm so ignorant to these simple things.

An All Flock type feed you could feed to everyone, though you might need to add brewer’s yeast to the duckling’s feed depending on the brand, but I’m also not a duck person so maybe take my duck advice with a bag full of salt.

You could continue what you are doing, but me and many others favor All Flock to layer feed any day of the week, especially if you have other poultry species mixed together. Free choice Oyster shell on the side is a good thing to provide if you have laying birds in the flock.

I know about oyster shells and all flock doesn't come cheap. I like organic non GMO non medicated feed. I am perfectly happy with layer pellets and my chickens love them too

That’s great! How old are the chicks, that I am presuming you raise at least every once in awhile, when you add them to the flock? Birds that aren’t laying shouldn’t be fed layer feed, so if you feed layer feed to your flock you may need to delay adding chicks till they are laying, or switching the whole flock to starter feed, and then you would need oyster shells or eggs shells on the side.

So we usually integrate them at six weeks but we had some problems so they were intergrated at eight weeks. The chicks still have chick starter at eight weeks but are eating the layer pellets. I've never had a problem. Please don't tell me to change the way my birds eat.

Don’t mean to be rude, but I have got to ask, why’d you make this thread then? You said you were ignorant to these simple things, so I was just trying to inform you. Please don’t make threads just asking for people to tell you you are correct, it isn’t respectful to the people who are trying to give you valid advice. ( I think there is a word for when you are looking for people to tell you you are right, but I can’t remember it. It’s on the tip of my tongue, I swear.)

I made this tread to see if there is any reason to not feed ducks layer pellets not fit advice on what to feed the chickens I've had for nine years. Not trying to be disrespectful. Thank you
