Feeding Geese

Everything I read sends me deeper down the rabbit hole!

The geese are coming up to 4 weeks old, they’re on unmed 18% chick crumb. They also free range all day. They’re only eating about a cup of crumb (in their water) between them now as they are more interested in the grass, as opposed to the 2/3 cups before. I’m curious as to what I should be feeding them as they get older but all the other threads on here and articles on the internet have conflicting opinions.

Some say feed them 16-17% chicken layers pellets, others say feed an actual waterfowl layers feed. Some say just wheat and OS. And then, “all flock”. The all flock at our feed store is a mix of OS, layers pellets, grains, seeds, peas, whole and cracked corn. Is that suitable?

I was thinking about just keeping them on chick crumb with added wheat until they’re about 16 weeks old. Then switch to two free choice cups of our feed store’s all flock. They will be free ranging for as long as they live. My garden is huge with plenty of grass, dirt, bugs, even mice (which the chickens are loving).

Also, I keep seeing threads about waterfowl with niacin? deficiencies. I wondered if I need to feed something with that in? My geese seem fine, no leg issues or wing issues, so far.

I’m using Allen and Pages ‘Small Holder Range’ of chick crumb.

That's why I was wondering where you were. Feed in England will be different than those in the US.

I am a goose novice too. This year will be my first time with them. I would not feed a layer, but I would make sure there's oyster shells available when hens start to lay.

I would feed either a non medicated grower, a waterfowl feed or an all flock ration. I'm reading adults should get 15-17% protein with free access to greens.

Hopefully someone from your neck of the woods can help out with suggestions.

Thank you for your help. I will see if my feed store can get grower or AP’s waterfowl layers pellets.

Should/can I feed this to them? I’ve been reading on niacin and it seems I should be supplementing them with it?
