Feeding Ground Burger as a Protein Source

I make a venison stew for my dogs..Cook it down. Add a little olive oil..rice..carrotts..
They get a TABLESPOON in their dry food every morning..
THEY LOVE IT and have Shiney coats!

I don't cook my ground meat. I grind it, bag it and freeze it. My girls get about a hamburgers worth each day. I have 15 birds.

Thanks, this is very helpful. No worries about disease? I would think freezing kill it off, but with some bacteria, it just goes dormant at cold temps, but doesn't actually die. For rapid feeding, I'd just as soon freeze as well.

Then again, for long term storage I still want to consider drying it out. We get some bad weather down here, certainly risk the hurricanes, and so I'd like to have some long term storage plans in line.

How many sandwich bags of meat/rice to you give each dog? How often per day do you feed? What size dogs (S,M,L, XL!)
We are contemplating getting a dog (cost of feed has been a concern) and I have a freezer full of venison :) Might make some up for the chooks as well :)

I used a 15-20 gallon galvanized "washtub" over a gas fish cooker in the barn
I'd boil it until it would fall off the bones, and then I'd remove the bones and shred the meat as much as possible.

Next I'd add enough rice to soak up all the liquid, and portion it out into "sandwich bags" to freeze. although it could be frozen in any containers.
By doing it in bags, I could just grab one for each dog and easily know they all got the same amount

For chickens, larger containers would work well

What meats do you use?
Actually, everything. Mostly old or freezer burnt. We have gotten meat from people who were cleaning out their freezers. Duck, shrimp, wild game, fish. We grind it to allow it to be consumed quickly instead of them running around with a hunk of meat hanging out of their beaks. Plus we don't want the meat laying around attracting predators. We feed whole oats, whole barley and whole wheat fermented, plus I use the chicken run as a compost area. I put EVERYTHING in there, even if they don't eat it, they mix and fertilize it for me. I hope this helps.
