We have had 3 hens who should be laying. We got them about 6 weeks ago. We got one egg without a shell on it like 3.5 weeks ago and nothing since. We were feeding them pellet but they did not seem to eat much. Now that the babies are outside during the day, They have the starter feed. The Hens try to get to it and when the babies are out of the pen they run in and gobble it up. I bought the laying crumble today and they LOVE it. Could not eating the pellets have anything to do with not laying eggs?

If it is the reason, how long before they will start laying on the new feed?

Thank you so much!

The pellet is probably not the problem it is probably that they just need a little more time to get into the laying cycle and then the eggs will have a stronger shell

It has been so long since that egg was laid. Is that how it is when they first start?
