So, I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this here, I figured I'd get the most input from meat bird people in this section...

Anyway, do you feed your broiler chicks chick starter or put them right on a broiler ration?

Thanks!

You can start them on a 24% or higher protein. I get a mix that is 24% and use it the whole way through.

You can start them on starter as low as 20% if you want... the higher percentage the faster they will grow... just keep that in mind.

Hope that helps...

What are people paying for 24%. I am new and I am getting my feed from TSC at 13.99 for 50 pounds of the 24%. It seems I need to get down to 22 to 24 cents per pound to make a little money at this. Is that possible?

I dunno. I have never made money, that is. But if you try to save money by feeding a lower quality feed than they need, it is going to cost you more in the long run. Check around and see if there are any mills in your area that cater to small producers. You might be able to find a suitable feed at less cost there.

I pay about $10.00 / bag for 24%. Try to get your feed ground at a mill instead of buying it retail from TSC.

If you can buy it wholesale (500 lbs) at a time.
