My chickens love to eat worms, they fight over one when they find one.
I know this is a good source of protein for them and I would like to be able to do this through the winter.

So I would like to start a worm farm for them. Dose any one have a suggestion on the best way to go about this. I would prefer to make one and not put the cost out to buy one.

I have a compost outside but I would prefer to keep a worm farm for the chickens separately.

Also, can I put the hay from the chickens pen into my compost or is the assiduity to high?

There are quite a few different sorts of worms according to what I have read on the Internet.

For composting worms, "Red Worms" seem to be preferred.
I have some in my garden, but also "Night Crawlers".

The "European Night Crawlers" are apparently also good for composting. I think that these are the ones that I would like to "cultivate" to use as both feed for my chickens and to help the garden soil.

It seems that the major problem with worms is keeping them at the correct temperature and somewhat moist (with veggies scraps/leaves for food).

There are some things to learn about them, all of which I believe can be found on various sites on the Internet.

Seems to me like it would be a good source of protein food supplement.
