Feeding my chicky's pecans! Anybody know Pros/Cons on this?!

I've read on a couple articles that pecans are good for chickens but dont have any scientific information on it. I have pecan trees all in my yard so I have plenty of treats for little buddies, just wanna make sure its all good!

Anybody got anything?!

I've lived in the same house now for twenty years. I've got two pecan trees and one black walnut tree. All these years, pecans have always been rotten. Probably 90% or greater. A few years ago I had determined wevils to be the cause and read up on how to eliminate them. H I hadn't gotten around to the process but I did get chickens a few years ago. While watching them scratch and peck under the trees, I got to wondering about the odd of them doing the job. First time in twenty years, we have pecans. Probably 90% to the good this year. Between the squills, raccoons and opossums there's had to have been partially eaten pieces of the 10% in previous years they've gotten to consume. Along with wevils apparently. I'm thrilled to have pecans finally
Never lost any chicks to strange deaths. Only raccoons and some to hawks.

Hi! Thanks for sharing!
Looks like your've stumbled across an old thread from back in 2010... I think they may have got the answer to their question about 10 years ago now :D

I work on a pecan farm, so I have access to all the pecans I could possibly want. After cracking the nuts, there is always a good amount of crushed up nut meat mixed in with the shells, and I give that to my hens in place of scratch. They LOVE it, it’s more nutritious than scratch could ever be, and I swear it improves the flavor of their eggs. Gives them a buttery flavor. 🥰
