This is Dottie, 4wk-old Silver-Laced Wyandotte. I trimmed her beak a few days ago but not much pale part to take off. She's done okay until now but I think she's not able to get enough nutrition to match how much she needs for her size. Her poop is dark brown and runny. Today I made a mash for her and she may have gotten some of it down but does lots of beak-banging to get the mush off. I fed her with an eye-dropper, which worked better but seems like the water-to-food ratio is too high for her to get nutrition. What about hand-feeding her worm pieces dipped in sand? She peeps a lot and it makes me so sad. I really don't want to lose her. Will her lower beak grow enough to make it easier for her to eat? I read a post about a meat bird with this plus a chin tumor. Dottie has the same tumor.

I don't have any experience with this, I just wanted to tell you that is you "trim" the upper beak every two weeks it will slowly make the quick move back so that more can be cut off. You can even use a drimel (sp) tool to "sand" it if you are afraid of cutting because it's so close to the quick. That's what my vets that I worked with would do. Hopefully someone will have experience with this and will be able to help. Good luck.
