Hey. I put together this chat thread too see if using pellets for chickens is good. Should I use scraps?? Put together oats, or corn, or cornmeal, I want the chickens too be healthy. Right now I use pellets. But in the future I want too use stuff from home. Any ideas, questions, or comments I will answer them.

Thank you!

I grow sprouts for myself and also give them to my chickens chopped up so the pieces are not long. I knew I was getting chickens in the spring, so this past winter before the chicks came, I threw out all kinds of greens seeds from my sprouting seed collection kale, chard, collards, curly endive etc... all over my yard before the rains and now I have a whole backyard full of stuff I let them dig around and pick at every evening! Enough greens for me too! Never have to buy much! They love it and all the greenery provides good cover from the hawks that come into my yard. I will throw seeds out every winter, so I have a good supply for the year:)

I sprout brown lentils for my hens all year long. Soak them in a jar , drain and let them sit a few days , wet every day and drain . Easy and cheap good protein for them. I also pick a bucket of grass for them most days ... now that’s really cheap

Layer feed crumbles for everyone , fermented . I add black oil sunflower seeds sparingly

I have a few crops for them. Kale, spinach, they love watermelon so I have a few of those plants. Also I have never gotten how you ferment. Can you give me steps too do it??
