Prolapsed Phallus

When my little Call Duck had a prolapse it was the size of a quarter hanging out of him. I sterilized everything and amputated the infected part and then sprayed him with vetericyn wound care that I got from TSC. That was over 2 years ago and he is just fine. He can still use it and has recovered with no ill effect. I had read that if I did not do it the infection would enter his body and he would die. This is why I did what I did. You handle yours however you decide but this worked for me. Good luck.

My Welsh Harlequin drake had it, he is just under 2 years old. I've tried everything, he lived indoors in my dining room for 4 weeks whilst I was treating him and after a month it did retract back (well, at least it was gone in the mornings in the last week). I must say it was not the normal corkscrew shape, but rather a straight-ish worm. So, I put him back outside to his ladies and ...boom, it was back out again. It did not bother him and one day I've noticed that nothing hangs down anymore.
He is now just standing on top of his ladies when they are asking for some fun, but nothing comes out. I assume he self amputated his own part. He is still very much himself and healthy otherwise.

I strongly agree with Goosebaby post. Get a different vet who can provide doxycycline at least or maybe even smth better, like Cipro injection, or 7-antibiotic injection that works like a dream for a while, giving you time to clean up your water.
It could be the water itself that you are using, or one of the ducks that is contaminating it, or could be the environment. Or it could even be your hands that carry some bacteria from your work or office, or it could even be a bag of feed that was on recall. We had some cracked corn from TSC and cat food that ducks like that we had to dispose of because of severe contamination with fungus Aspergillus. We just bought it, and spent lots of money and decided to just through it out, because one of our best ducks just loves catfood got ill.

Forgot to update you all!

I literally could not get him to a vet, there’s a singular one in town who was unable to help and I had no way of getting him to the only other vet in the area who *might* have been able to help but is 2 hours away and quite expensive.

I ended up just leaving it, watching closely and hoping for the best. Every time I cleaned their swimming water and refilled it I’d catch him and have him swim first and every now and then I’d add in epsom salt.

By some miracle it didn’t end up becoming necrotic or infected and just went back one day. A few weeks later now and I’ve witnessed him mating and continue life as usual with absolutely no prolapses again!! :)

Thank you so much for the update!

And it is really good to know that it was able to recover even without access to a vet!
