feeding sunflower seeds

Do you give chicks shelled sunflower seeds or with the shells? I've heard that "black oil sunflower seeds" are very good for the chickens. Thanks, Today I bought my chicks a water mister. It has been in the high 90's here with a heat index of 106+. They backed up when the mist started moving to them, but hope it will help with the heat. Also ordered some shade cloth to cover the west side of their run. I'm changing their water twice a day to give them cool water.

We do shell on since they typically are not baked or have other stuff added. BOSS are a great treat and are like little "crack" seeds for our chickens!

Good shade, misters, and good air flow will keep everyone alive in the summer for sure.
