Yesterday we picked up eight adorable little chickies and Mama Hen from our aunt's house!!!!!!!(https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/675922/welcome-home-chicks-warning-pic-heavy)

This is my first time with caring for chickens, so I was wondering- how often do you change the chick's food?

What are you feeding them? Is it dry or wet? They are supposed to eat their food. So theoretically, you don't change it. I just leave chick feed for them only in a place where the big girls can't get to it along with their own water. Mom does a great job of taking care of them and they never get into trouble with the big girls.

It's dry feed. I was just thinking with all of the pine shavings that mama hen scratches into the feeder, you'd have to change it. Do you just push the shavings out and add new feed?

Elevate the feeder off the ground will help with the shavings. Keep it about the height of their backs raising it as they get bigger. Never had to worry about changing their food they ate it so fast. Might have to dump some of it if they poop in it but raising it will help with that too. Might add an inverted funnel to the top of the feeder if they are getting on top of it and doing their business in it.
