Feeding the wild

Is it legal to feed the wild geese that visit my property?

It depends on a lot of factors. Most states have hunting regulations about "baiting" which is basically doing anything that encourages wild animals to come towards you or other people or hang around a certain area. These laws are often used even in non-hunting situations to discourage feeding even on private property and city parks. If there is hunting anywhere around your property such as in your neighbor's property, etc, then I would say it's not really a good idea.

However, in most cases, a bird feeder is allowed and I have heard of automatic waterfowl feeders for ducks that are on the "off limits" list for hunting. I would check with fish and game if you want to be extra sure. But, if you don't think anyone will ever see or catch you, I wouldn't worry about it.

Be careful you don't get a couple hundred geese hanging around your property.
