feeding un-ripe apples and pears

We have a variety of fruit trees on our property. I have been feeding the downed plums to the chickens & they love them. I was wondering if I could feed the downed apples & pears to them as well. These are pretty small & hard. Would I have to shred them? Any advice is appreciated.
Going by this, I’m going to try it because it will be less bugs around if I take down some apples so the other ones grow better

I am out here with the apple trees and this was a good question because my apples always have some kind of bugs in them and it’s best to take some down to make the apples grow better so that’s another reason to give them small apples so I’m glad it’s OK I’ll see if they will eat it

This year, we've had a family of crows move in... and the crows actually pick the small unripe pears off of our tree and eat them. I don't mind because these pears NEVER get soft, no matter how long I let them sit! LOL
