Feeds that aren't mostly corn and soy?

I think that most soy is not natural.... and it certainly is not healthy for human consumption in my humble opinion.

I agree.

And it is cheap because it is heavily subsidized.

I have to avoid soy, corn and corn products. Needless to say there are very few foods that come in a package that I eat.

I am another Countryside customer. Believe it or not, even with the shipping cost, this stuff is cheaper than driving over an hour to an organic farm that has various grains that I was going to mix myself to get an organic, soy free mix for my 6 pullets. I do have one question. I switched to the countryside layer feed about 6 weeks ago. One of my girls began laying an egg a day about 3 weeks ago (yippee!). I did not realize the feed had calcium in it until after I got it. Is it too much calcium for the 5 girls that are not laying yet? they all look happy and very healthy but I've heard too much calcium can damage their kidneys. What do you think?

I use the countryside organic soy free feed as well. My girls love it. If you go to their website you can get their number and call them. Very nice guys, happy to share their info. I have some stores around me that carry the countryside food so I don't have to deal with shipping cost. I actually spoke with the countryside guy this week (sorry i forgot his name) and I told him that I wished that a different local store near me carried their food and he asked me for their name and number and said he would contact them to see if they wanted to carry the food. I spoke with the store and told them that I wished they carried the countryside food and they said that more and more people seemed to be moving towards soy free organic food and that they were interested in carrying some. SO, you might try to speak with your local feed store and countryside and see what you can work out.

I agree with seeing Food Inc. it is very informative on the soy issue. My husband told me yesterday that there was a story on NPR yesterday that said that most of the sugar in the US actually comes from beets ... Monsanto genetically modified beets. We should all know more about our food.

Take care!

all of Countryside's chicken feeds are ground whole grains.

depending on where you live, there are buyers clubs that can help with shipping. i get mine from a local organic farmer who orders for our whole district. i end up paying $4/50 lb bag for shipping since the pallet shipping is so much cheaper than individual bags. if there isn't a club in your area, you can start one!

Countryside should totally hire me as a rep. i seem to spend all my time talking about how great their food is!

I recently just found countryside as well and my ladies seem to like it.
The less money I can give to Monsanto the better!
