Feeling a little Frustrated as a new member

Sorry to hear you're experiencing frustration... I totally understand, and I own the site :)

As others mentioned above, we've had some VERY persistent spammers... like ones that come on and create hundreds of accounts and post tens of thousands of posts. I guess they see BYC as being extremely awesome and popular, so I can't really blame them.

We've put a lot of automatic blockers in place to stop them, but we also need to make sure we don't completely block legit members... it's a tricky balance. For this reason, we have to restrict what brand new members are able to do (usually it's during the first 10 - 20 posts) while we prove that you're not here to sell us Korean kitchen furniture.

Thanks for your (and everyone's) patience as we work to let our members have a happy place to post while keeping the dirty spammers at bay!

@BusyBanty Welcome to BYC

Sorry to hear about your frustrations, like Nifty said above you are not the only one. Brand new members do have permissions to do quite a few things though, such as uploading pics and videos, entering contests, rating other users' content etc. We review outside links, because we have had people sign up simply to post links to their own websites/business/spam etc. So we review links posted by brand new members.

If you are unable to post photos and videos, rate users' content etc, it could because of a technical/browser issue. Please let us know if the problems persist and let's see how we can help you!

I'm sorry to hear about your spamming headaches! Ugh. I'm sure we can all relate to wanting to filter out those parasites. Do they even get any sales that way? I would never patronize such an outlet out of principle. But I'll agree- the website IS AWESOME and has really exploded over the years. I never felt like I had the cred to join before I actually got my own chickens, but now we're legitimately on our 2nd flock. :-)

I thought it'd be helpful to share pics of our henhouse & coop, and links to my vlog I just embarked upon documenting our one sick chick that nearly died and what we've done along the way to help her regain her stamina. Also curious to meet others who have speckled sussex, french marans, buff orps, or easter eggers. :-D

THanks for personally responding to my gripe, too. It means a lot.

God bless!

Yes, I was told I couldn't post pics or videos, either, at first, due to my status as a new member- needed to post 10-20 more posts. I just didn't have time to spend a few hours figuring out something to post, so I decided to post one about my frustration. I'm a busy mom ya know! Got gardens, chickens, chicks, kids, dogs & cats, and a life, lol! It's okay. I'm over it. I probably won't be spending much time here until the cold weather rolls in anyway. But thanks for sympathizing. And I do understand why now.

Bless y'all.

Hello, and welcome to BYC! I hope that you won't be feeling frustrated for long here. You can find the threads for your state by typing your state in into the little search bar provided above. If you need more postings, start posting to the people there in your state. Another good way to get the postings you need, is by welcoming other newbies to BYC. They have new members joining here every day!

BusyBanty. Relative newbie former lurker. Same frustrations but glad of responses you received. I have Speckled Sussex, Marans, Buff Orp and EE's. And more. I need to sell or give away if necessary some. Plus I have other breeds too. Let's talk chicken! I am on Flock no. 4. Busy life too but this time is break time for me usually. Not a techie though.

Where is that little search bar for me to locate others in my state ?? Good responses to
BusyBanty. Integrity shone. May God richly bless you!

Lol, we have more than we need, too, and making plans to enlarge our coop to accommodate the new flock. I have one Speckled Sussex pullet that might be a dwarf size.
