Feeling a little Frustrated as a new member

Not sure why submissions are regulated so strictly. What's the reasoning behind not letting new members post pics, videos, outside links, or partake in contests? Just seems a little overkill. Was there a bad troll problem? Does this keep that under control and weed them out? I feel like most of my participation involves sharing my images/videos, etc., to generate more feedback and make more friends. There are so many topics covered that it seems like a newbie such as myself just getting started doesn't have much to share that hasn't already been covered here by the thousands of posts by members. What kind of posts are you looking for by new members anyway?

Just a little frustrated and confused. Thanks for any helpful illumination on why newbies are restricted so tightly here on this awesome website.
 
BYC has had frequent, very persistent spam attacks that disrupted many threads. The mods have been excellent at getting control. But, you never know what tomorrow will bring.

BYC has well over 400,000 members globally - who seems to accept the rules. If you pm one of the moderators I'm sure they can answer any of your questions.

Hey BusyBanty...I think it might be only 20 posts (I'm relying on my memory from when I joined 5 years ago so...) until you get full access. If you head over to Fun and Games under the Social forum you can post to a silly diversion thread and have the posts you need in 5 minutes. Just a suggestion :)
 
I don't know. I don't like to spend a lot of time online these days. So not sure if this is for me. Might have to stick to mainly lurking? I am a Busy Banty, after all!

Stick around and post when you can! I think by now you should be able to post pictures and video.

We go through stages where the first two or three pages of posts are all spam. They just post constantly in every forum till it blocks every bodies feed. You must have got lucky if you missed the months of Chinese spam that blocked the board not that long ago. They get deleted but the moderators can't be on call 24/7 so if pictures were allowed straight up we could find the board being spammed with pornography and links being posted to virus sites by these spammers. It takes very little to join in and get to the required amount but takes a lot to keep the spammers at bay so think it's a nescesary evil.

The new members thread is a good place to get to the required limit. Just go welcome some other newbies and you will be at the post limit before you know it.
