We have 7 pullets around 18 weeks old -- should start laying soon and will then need oyster shells. There are also 3 younger pullets in the flock -- around 13 weeks old. Will the younger ones be harmed by the oyster shells? My set up will not let me feed the big girls and the little girls separately. Many thanks for your help.

Not sure if there are potential harms, but my flock of 3 10 week olds and 2 full grown get a mix of layer, starter/grower, and oyster shell. There have been no problems and this diet has been available to them for about 2 weeks now.

My 2 younger chicks(15 weeks old) will do their best to get a piece of oyster shell!

. I feed the oyster shell once a day to the rest of the flock. I heard feeding calcium can lead to kidney damage. I'm not taking any chances. All my girls are still on starter for another 3-4 weeks when the youngest two reach 18-19 weeks old. It's a pain, but it's worth the efforts.
