Just saw this thread. Twice I have had pets with dead, dry skin like this--one a kitten that had apparently gotten a flap of skin caught in something, and one a muscovy duckling attacked by a Khaki Campbell drake. In both cases the surface skin died and dried to a hard stiff testure; very, very gradually, the dead patches shrank and pulled away from the edges of the wounds while new skin grew in from those same edges. Where the old dead hide pulled away too quickly in a couple os spots leaving a small open area, I treated with a bit of triple antibiotic. It took a long time (weeks), but eventually the bit of dead hide fell off. Both animals were fine and had no issues other than the duckling always had one eye a little wider than the other as a result of a bit of scarring to his face.
Good luck with your lovely girl, loved the pink, yellow, blue and green eggs I used to get from mine!
